Introducing the Lucia Light
A trip to the brightest spaces of your imagination.
“Lucia is a hypnagogic device, capable of inducing theta states similar to that of the float tank. The theta brainwave is known for it’s creative capabilities and when induced via the Lucia Light, that fact becomes brilliantly apparent.”
Float North County
I had no idea the colors of my mind’s eye are so incredibly vivid.
When the Lucia Light was making guest appearances here at FNC, I wasn’t the biggest fan. Then we set one up here more permanently and I got to play around with it. Now I dig it. It puts me in a similar state of mind as the float tank and both are characterized by significantly reduced tensions throughout my neck, back and shoulders. Which I thoroughly enjoy.
I think the Light is a great addition to FNC and the perfect tool to utilize if you are one of our clients that would like to slow their mind down a bit faster. As many of you know, the first part of a float can come with a bit of mental chatter and the Lucia Light expedites that process. It’s like a quick blast of zen before you hop in the tank.
That’s my take on it so far. I’d love to hear yours. Let us know what you think.
Lucia Light was for me alternately intense and soothing, illuminating and exciting. Dazzling images, patterns, colors were unleashed to the point that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. A waking, kaleidoscopic dream that went to the brink of something rapturous– highly recommended.Ken
How it works.
The Lucia N3 stimulates temporary EEG brain wave patterns that would usually only appear after several years of meditation practice. For the first time even novice meditators experience a state of deep relaxation coupled with focus, where one is in touch with their own intuition and sense of wholeness.
White light passes through the retina to the pineal gland, and creates a visual experience of one’s own design. The inner consciousness of the traveler produces scenes of indescribable beauty. Music enhances the experience as the mind combines the two stimuli, generating synesthesia – the experience of seeing music.
How we do it
The Light is in Room 4 which is large and very comfortable with a rug and soft lighting. You sit in a zero-gravity recliner and help us position the light roughly 18 inches from your face. The chair itself is designed to allow your muscles to relax into it, very reminiscent of the buoyancy in the float tank. You can play music if you bring some on your phone, we have a set of headphones here but a lot of people bring their ear buds. The experience can be done with or without music, your choice.
The light should be avoided if you have had seizures, recent head injuries or any other adverse effects involving strobe lighting.
Why we do it
There are an increasing number of studies pointing to the benefits of light therapy for a variety of issues. Mostly for anxiety/mood disorders and of those most notably Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). We are certainly not doctors and would never say that this is a treatment for anything.
What we can say with more certainty is that the Lucia Light offers the benefits that come with deep meditatiive brainwaves. Deep theta states from meditation are often associated with increased joy, creativity, intuition, and concentration. Meditation and other mindful techniques are essential to increasing the quality of life, an effect that initially attracted us to float tanks, and the Lucia Light is another device that lets you “cheat” the process so to speak and access those effects directly.
